I am thrilled to announce that The Boeing Company has made a two-year grant of $60,000 to support the Friends' Cascade Agenda Watershed Program. This outstanding level of support follows a 2007 grant of $10,000 to support the CAWP, which seeks to enhance the achievements of the Hylebos Creek Conservation Initiative, connect the Initiative to Cascade Agenda, and develop conservation tools & techniques that can be used by grassroots groups in other watersheds. To the extent we're successful, here we want to find ways - and we're working with the Cascade Land Conservancy to do this - to spread those successful techniques.
Specifically, the Boeing grant will enable us to focus on two issues critical to environmental quality in the watershed: urban forest health and smart growth. The folks at Boeing recognize the importance of smart growth, and healthy forests in determining the quality of local communities where Boeing workers (and a whole lot of the rest of us) reside. With their support in this grant, we're looking to make big steps in ensuring healthier forests (and a greener, more beautiful community) and (in the admittedly less sexy issue) fostering smart decisions about growth that support quality neighborhoods, healthy environments and a thriving economy.
