West Hylebos Wetlands planting
Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday to the West Hylebos Wetlands. It was a wonderful day and a great event-all because of you! You are the heart of the Hylebos, and the reason we are here.
The day started off partly sunny and cool, and stayed that way all day long-perfect for planting. Volunteers removed invasive species for the morning, and then after lunch we moved into planting, the part everyone was waiting for. We planted 525 native trees and plants, including sitka willow, Western red cedar, Western hemlock, vine maple, big leaf maple, and more...
Lunch! Chowing down on pizza, donated by the Right Spot in Fife. Poverty Bay Coffee Company provided coffee and hot water for hot chocolate to get everyone moving in the morning.
This site was cleared of invasive blackberry by REI and EarthCorps in May 2007, and it's so exciting to see it get planted a year and a half later.
Rocky and his daughter Kaia planting a hemlock tree. I'm kind of a sucker for the family planting photos.
Groups that participated in Saturday's event:
Cub Scout Pack 307, Brownie Troop 2432, Pierce Community College Biology students and International Exchange students
It was really wonderful to see longtime friends (you know who you are), and make new friends-hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic work Hillary and Volunteers! I'm Inspired, that so many came out to care for my favorite place in Federal Way.
