Kudos to a Couple of Hylebos Volunteers

We're fortunate to be associated with some fine young adults in our conservation efforts. Today, I'd like to recognize two Hylebos volunteers who were named to the South Puget Sound League all-league teams for girls soccer.

Kendal Feider, who has been a water quality intern this year, was selected as Honorable Mention as a midfielder, while Kasey Carrel (who also gets mucho thanks for making me breakfast today. what a kid.) was also named to the team as a Midfielder (although she played most of the season in defense?!) in the Honorable Mention category. Kasey has volunteered with habitat restoration projects and every Ruby Dance we've had.

Both ladies are helping make their community greener and healthier, while demonstrating excellence on the soccer field. Congratulations!

Federal Way - Home of the National Champions

Ok, this is way off-topic (no great surprise there, right?!), but I want to note a hearty congratulations to two local girls soccer teams - Reign '93 Purple and the eerily similar sounding Reign '94 Purple. After two hard-fought title games in Virginia Beach, Virginia Tuesday, these two teams are national champions of their respective age brackets. Not bad, huh?!

Reign '93 has one little midfielder I'm very proud of. She scored two goals over the tournament's 4 games, including the penalty kick to tie the championship game 1-1 before her team completed a comeback to win 2-1.

Both teams are composed of some great young athletes and fine young women who deserve to be champions. The coaches are pretty good, too, I guess.

October's Gunner of the Month

I'm really late on this one, but Gunner of the Month on the old wall calendar is none other than new signing Tomas Rosicky (pronounced Ro-sitz-kee). The Czech midfielder was brought to the club last year to bring back some of the wing firepower lost with the departure of one of my all-time favorites, Robert Pires.

After struggling somewhat last year, Rosicky has settled in during 2007 and was a key figure in the midfield, and began scoring goals for the club. A hamstring injury set the 26-year-old back during September, but as he regains playing form, look for Rosicky to help propel the club to its first domestic title since 2004's Invincibles.
