Post-Turkey Day Thoughts

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend has come and gone. It was like a flash for me. The daughters were in a soccer tournament. We did 6 games in 2 days. unfortunately, the two teams went 1--0-5, with a goal apiece to show for it.

Fortunately, the Arsenal came back in big fashion and whomped Chelsea on their home pitch! That was enough to lift my spirits.

I'm nose-deep in the 2009 budget today. Excitement and thrills! We should be able to do alright next year - with your support, of course! I'll have more exciting news tomorrow. And hopefully, more later on.

Let's see, Pacific Magazine had a nice feature on restoration efforts at Tarboo Creek. Sounds like a great effort. I'd love to get out there and see what they've been up to.

Farther out, scientists are using a high-tech tracking system to get a better understanding of the life of salmon in the ocean. While the article presents some interesting facts, the author goes a bit far in suggesting that the Columbia River dams aren't all that bad. After all, the salmon runs were something like 12 quadrillion a year (I may be off by a zero or two - I don't have time to look up the actual numbers. Hey, that's what you get for a free blog. Anyhow, some nerd with a nose for numbers will be perturbed by my lack of accuracy and add the correct numbers in a comment. You just watch) before the dams were built and dropped to something like 200 after the dams were built. That's pretty damning circumstantial evidence (even if I fudged the numbers a bit).

Now, finish those leftovers before they go bad!
