There’s no need to suffer a big stink from Dumas Bay beach

Here's another example of our ailing Puget Sound. The sea lettuce growth is the marine equivalent of the native terrestrial species that become invasive when presented with a disturbed environment. Is it any coincidence that the sea lettuce are exploding at the marine end of Twin Lakes' stormwater? - one of the most heavily developed residential areas plus a golf course or two....



When August and hot weather hit, sea lettuce can start to pile up and stink at Dumas Bay Beach in Federal Way.

When the sea lettuce rots and decomposes, it gives off hydrogen sulfide gas, sending the smell of rotten eggs into nearby homes.
