Early, Early Morning...

I started off the morning today with a 7 a.m. presentation at the Federal Way Kiwanis at Denny's. I had forgotten just how early 7 is, when it comes in the a.m. version. Fortunately, with the help of many cups of coffee, I was able to operate my laptop and the presentation came off as planned.

The morning Kiwanis has a great group of people who are very committed to helping improve the community (and having fun doing it). The group was enthusiastic about Hylebos Conservation and we had a good discussion with a lot of thoughtful questions.

The July-Sept. issue of the always excellent Conservation magazine features a fascinating and thought-provoking article on Ecological Freakonomics. Read it.

Stinky Whales Spell More Marine Trouble
Gray whales have been a conservation success story, with numbers increasing dramatically as the whaling ban has allowed the species to recover. New Scientist reports that stinky whales may be the harbinger of real trouble for the species.
