Baby, It's Cold Outside...

I visited the West Hylebos Wetlands again today; this time, to meet videographer Jeff Gentes, who is composing a brief video blurb about the Friends. The piece will be shown at the Cascade Land Conservancy Awards Breakfast May 1st, where the CLC will present us with their Land Stewardship Award, for the Hylebos Creek Conservation Initiative.

I'm not the media hog I appear to be, but PR'ing is part of the job. However, I love the fact that the Friends and the Hylebos Community is getting the spotlight. A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by Seattle Metropolitan magazine for a piece they're doing on Federal Way. In response to a question about what is unique about the Hylebos work, I answered, "the community support." This is a community that has gotten behind conservation in a huge way. It's not a controversial issue. We don't have to twist peoples' arms and hit them upside the head with the message. Federal Way'ers and Miltonites and even Fife'azoids (I'm just guessing on that last one) get it. Conserving our great lands is essential to protecting our quality of life; and it can be done while growing economically.

That's a ramble away from what I set out to say, which is, the West Hylebos Wetlands was beautiful today. Colder than the underside of a duck in January, but absolutely stunning. It's hard not to love life after a trip to the West Hylebos.

Get out there soon, if you can.
